Language + Questioning = Communication

These three words sit at the heart of our curriculum.

Children need to have:

• a good grasp of language
• be able to question and reason

As a school we use Talk for Writing skills to help develop pupils retelling and language skills. The aims of this is that, if we can talk the story and act out the story, we can write the story. 

Autumn Term Stimulus

This term we are reading 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' by CS Lewis and is part of a series. Four adventurous siblings―Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie― step through a wardrobe door and into the land of Narnia, a land frozen in eternal winter and enslaved by the power of the White Witch. But when almost all hope is lost, the return of the Great Lion, Aslan, signals a great change . . . and a great sacrifice.

Spring Term stimulus

This term we are reading 'Varjak Paw' by S F Said. 

Varjak Paw is a Mesopotamian Blue kitten, who lives high up in an old house on a hill.

He's never left home, until he receives a mysterious visit from his grandfather who tells him about The Way - a secret martial art for cats.

Now Varjak must use the Way to survive in a city full of dangerous dogs, cat gangs and, strangest of all, the mysterious Vanishings.

Summer Term Reading Stimulus

This term we will be reading 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit. Travel back in time to the days of the Roman Empire and join Tranio, the son of an actor, and his friend Livia, the baker's daughter, in witnessing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. Tranio, like most Roman boys, likes to watch whatever is going on: tradesmen selling their goods, ships unloading their exotic cargoes, politicians making speeches in the forum. But one hot August day a very different scene unfolds. The ground begins to shake, the sky to darken. People run gasping for air. Heading for the harbor, Tranio and his friend Livia hide on a boat and witness one of the most terrifying moments in recorded history-the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the destruction of their beloved city, Pompeii.

We will also be reading Secrets of a Sun King by Emma Carroll. 

When Lilian Kaye finds a parcel on her grandad's doorstep, she is shocked to see who sent it: a famous Egyptologist, found dead that very morning, according to every newspaper in England!
